Frequently asked questions
Common questions about rigid boxes.
What is the minimum quantity for luxury rigid boxes?
We produce from short runs upwards. Covering involves partly manual work, so there is no industrial threshold as there is on folding cartons: contact us with your format and finishes for an accurate quotation.
How long does it take to produce bespoke rigid boxes?
On average 4-5 weeks from prototype approval, depending on the complexity of the finishes and materials chosen.
Which sectors do you produce luxury rigid boxes for?
Niche perfumery houses, jewellers, luxury fashion and premium cosmetics. These are the sectors where the pack is kept by the end customer, and therefore has to match the level of the product.
What is the difference between a rigid box and a folding carton?
They are two different constructions. A folding carton is die-cut from a single sheet, folded and glued, and ships flat: it costs less and takes up little warehouse space. A rigid box has a solid structure in laminated board, onto which a covering paper is applied. It does not fold, arrives assembled, and carries a far higher perceived value. You choose it when the packaging is part of the product, not of the shipping.
Which box types do you produce?
Base and lid boxes, three- and five-piece boxes, drawer boxes, magnetic closure boxes, gift boxes and milled luxury boxes. The choice depends on how you want the customer to open the pack: the opening gesture is part of the experience and determines the structure to use.
Which papers can be used for the covering?
Gloss and matt coated papers, textured and specialty papers, pearlescent and metallic papers, natural papers and FSC-certified recycled papers. The covering paper defines the character of the box more than any other choice: textured says craft, pearlescent says luxury, natural says sustainability.
Can the inside of the box be customised too?
Yes, and it is often what sets a luxury box apart. We produce custom interiors: shaped bottle seats, trays, dividers, linings in a different paper from the outside. The interior has to be designed together with the product, because it must hold it during transport and present it well on opening.
Do you produce short runs?
Yes. Covering involves partly manual work, so rigid boxes also suit limited quantities — limited editions, launch boxes for a fragrance, press kits. Contact us with quantity and format for a precise assessment.
Do you make a prototype before production?
Yes, we always produce a physical prototype. On a rigid box it matters more than elsewhere: materials, covering colour and opening gesture can only really be judged with the box in your hands. Write to preventivi@toffanin.it with your project.

Industries we serve
Who we produce covered boxes and luxury packaging for.
Our covered boxes and luxury gift sets are chosen by artisan perfume houses, jewellery brands and fashion houses seeking packaging that is never ordinary.
We produce custom rigid boxes in every format: lid and base, drawer style, three or five-piece, with bespoke foam or board inserts. Each covered box is a piece of packaging the end customer keeps — which is why the quality of the covering paper, the precision of the corners and the care of the finishing make the difference between forgettable packaging and packaging that builds brand loyalty.
